The Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (BNITM) is the largest Research Institute for Tropical Medicine in Germany with approximately 400 employees. It is the National Reference Centre for Tropical Pathogens, a WHO Collaborating Centre and member of the Leibniz Research Association.
 
The Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine in Hamburg is seeking to fill a position as
IT Infrastructure Engineer (f/m/d)

at the earliest possible date.

These are your tasks:
  • Support and and development of the network with over 1.000 clients and approx. 200 network devices
  • Administration and further development of approx. 100 (virtual) servers that provide various services like e-mail servers, storage, websites and web platforms
  • Development and provisioning of IT infrastructures for computational sciences and high performance computing
  • Deputy head of the team of 12 IT experts
  • Participation in the on-call duty
These are your strengths:
  • University degree in computer science or related technical courses or comparable training, e.g. IT specialist (f/m/d) with relevant practical experience
  • Very good knowledge of Unix / Linux
  • Several years of experience in server administration in the Unix / Linux environment, especially Debian Linux & Oracle Linux
  • Experience in network administration (switching, routing, firewalls)
  • Good knowledge of IT security
  • Social competence and ability to work in a team
  • Very good knowledge of English and good knowledge of German, written and spoken
  • Open-minded way of thinking and high open source affinity
These would be plus points:
  • Good knowledge of typical website stacks Nginx / Apache, mySQL / mariaDB, PHP
  • Good knowledge of email servers (Postfix & Dovecot
  • Good knowledge of storage systems and Samba / CTDB
  • Good knowledge of scripting with bash and at least one higher programming language such as Python or Ruby
  • Good knowledge of various virtualization concepts and technologies such as Docker, VMWare and Proxmox
  • Experienced in DevOps
  • Experience with Java Wildfly / Tomcat
  • Experience with Oracle DBMS
  • Experience in the Windows server environment and ActiveDirectory
  • Experience in the selection and procurement of (server and network) hardware
  • Experience in automatic software deployment under Mac OS and Windows
