Postdoc (m/f/d)

– full-time, EG 13 TV-AVH –
 
The position is temporary for 5 years with 40 weekly working hours.
 
The Health Communication Working Group focuses on the determinants of human (health) behavior and how to change it. Current key research areas are pandemic behavior, vaccination, climate change and planetary health. The research group derives innovative research ideas and interventions from theories and methods from psychology, behavioral economics, communication science, and health communication. Considerable behavioral and social research is confined to individuals and societies from the global north. Our research group seeks to increase attention to the perspective and context of the global south within the behavioral sciences.
 
The vacant position fits in the field of planetary health and focuses primarily on infection control and emerging infections. The goal is to conduct collaborative research within the working group and to develop an independent research profile in the described area of research. In particular, the selected candidate will be concerned with research questions addressing the validity of psychological construct measurement in a variety of countries and contexts.

Your profile:
  • Motivated scientist with a university degree and PhD in psychology or statistics or a closely related discipline
  • Prior knowledge in measurement invariance
  • Prior knowledge of infectious diseases and infection control is beneficial
  • Interest in cross-cultural and cross-country comparative studies and research in the countries of BNITM's African partner institutions
  • Experience in quantitative data analysis
  • Experience in planning and conducting scientific studies
  • Experience in international publication of scientific results
  • Experience in attracting third-party funding is beneficial
  • Willingness to practice Open Science
  • Very good knowledge of German and English (both spoken and written)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Creative and independent mindset, desire for innovative research questions
  • Enjoyment of teamwork
 
Your tasks:
  • Joint research of the professorship, especially studies on the question of valid measurement of psychological constructs in different countries and contexts
  • Planning, conducting, documenting, analyzing, interpreting studies and subsequently writing scientific publications, participating in conferences, and presenting scientific data
  • Willingness to attract third-party funding for own profile development and further scientific qualification as well as a contribution to the profile of the working group
  • Independent guidance and supervision of scientific staff and students in their respective areas of responsibility
  • Supervision of guest scientists
  • Active participation in capacity building activities
  • Communication with national and international cooperation partners and scientists
  • Participation in consortium meetings
  • Participation in the application process for research funds
  • Participation in science communication activities
  • Taking responsibility for personnel and budget, project management and administration
