Postdoc (m/w/d)

As part of a collaborative BMBF Project „Preparedness and Response in an Emergency context to Pathogens of Medical and Veterinary importance, PREPMedVet“ we seek a highly motivated candidate to support the research activities of an international team of scientists.
 

Your tasks:

  • Responsible for generating and analyzing virus genome sequence data using cutting edge portable and metagenomic sequencing approaches as well as state of the art bioinformatics tools
  • Establish viral metagenomic and metatranscriptomic pipelines on portable NGS devices
  • Establish and implement real-time virus genomic surveillance and viral pathogen discovery platforms in several locations
  • Genomic epidemiology and Evolution of viral pathogens

Your Profile:

  • The successful candidate must hold a PhD with relevant research experience in the field of genomic evolution and surveillance of human and/or animal viral pathogens and/or cutting-edge genomics and metagenomic approaches to the investigation of infectious diseases
  • Experience with Illumina based sequencing technologies and sequencers (NextSeq, iSeq)
  • Knowledge of phylogenetic approaches (including Bayesian methods), and pathogen evolution would be desirable
  • Experience with Geneious, CLC Workbench would be desirable but not essential
  • Willingness to travel
  • Strong team spirit and communication skills
  • Fluent oral and written English

The position is available for 36 months starting at the earliest possible time point. Remuneration is in accordance with German salary scheme for the public service (TV-AVH Hamburg).
