The One Health Disease Control Group of the Dept. Infectious Disease Epidemiology focusses on development and implementation of conventional and innovative mobile laboratory solutions for pandemic preparedness and outbreak response in Europe (MOBILISE), Africa (EAC Mobile Labs) and Nepal. Within the Horizon Europe-funded MOBILISE project, we are designing a novel, green mobile One Health Laboratory concept for arboviral diagnostics and sequencing.
In East Africa, we are coordinating the KfW-funded EAC mobile laboratory network of box-based mobile laboratories for viral haemorrhagic fever virus detection (such as Ebola Virus disease) and truck-based BSL-3 mobile laboratories for AMR surveillance. The One Health Disease Control Group of the Dept. Your tasks:
Project delivery
Project delivery
- Manage the delivery of major research, training and capacity strengthening programme initiatives, ensuring they are managed to funders‘ requirements, specification, time and budget;
- Provide day-to-day high-level support to the „One Health Disease Group“ Lead, assisting in the implementation of robust programme management processes and protocols, in line with best practice;
- Deliver project events, such as research collaboration meetings, workshops and trainings, and coordinate appropriate publicity, ensuring meeting minutes are taken and distributed;
- Routinely monitor all activities, review risks, issues and progress, taking actions as necessary to ensure minimum impact on programme deadlines;
- Maintain up-to-date records that enable effective monitoring, control and evaluation of assigned programme activities including budgets and procurement; oversee all reporting processes, prepare reports and assure timely submission of deliverables and milestones
- Where opportunities arise, develop budgets for research proposals and bids;
Operations and resources management
- Perform strategic project resources planning and financial analysis, including assisting in preparation of budgets, to include staffing and operational needs, as well as oversee the timely payment of expenses;
- Where appropriate, organise the recruitment of assigned project research staff ensuring timely use of resources, including office space management;
Communications and relationships management
- Communicate project information and status to all relevant parties, providing early warning and escalation of key issues to the One Health Disease Control Lead;
- Act as a primary contact point for all internal partners;
- Monitor national and international funding opportunities relevant to the One Health Disease Control Group’s portfolio and assist in proposal preparation
- Work with the Institute’s communications team to disseminate the One Health Disease Control Group’s findings, update the group’s webpage, highlighting successful outputs and outcomes of the projects;
- Assist in writing of scientific publications.
Your profile:
- Motivated project manager with a relevant academic degree with project management specialisation and/or substantial project management experience (10 years). Experience of public health projects in LMIC would be desirable.
- Extensive experience to comply with regulations and formalities of German, European and international funding organisations, as well as private foundations.
- Experience in interactions with international organisations, governments and non-governmental organisations desirable.
- Willingness to occasionally travel in Europe, Africa and Asia.
- Interest in pandemic preparedness and Public Health implementation research and capacity building in Europe, Africa and Asia
- Experience in organizing and conducting trainings, meetings and workshops
- Experience in publishing results in international journals desirable
- Experience in grant proposal writing or obtaining external funds is beneficial
- Formal project management certification (e.g. PRINCE 2 or equivalent) is desirable
- Very good knowledge of English and German. Additional knowledge of French is beneficial
