The Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (BNITM) is a member institute of the Leibniz Association. With over 400 employees, it is Germany’s largest institution for research, patient care, and teaching in the field of tropical diseases and emerging infections.

Network Coordinator – African Digital One Health Network (ADOHNet) (m/f/d)
— 0.7 FTE, EG 11 TV-AVH —

We are initating the ADOHNet together with African partner institutions – a new network to strengthen data-analysis capacity in infection biology and One Health across sub-Saharan Africa. The network will combine shared compute infrastructure at African partner sites, an annual training school, and a structured postdoctoral fellowship for intensive analytical collaborations with BNITM research groups. As ADOHNet is in its build-up phase, we are looking for an organised and internationally experienced coordinator to play a central role in establishing the network and its structures from Hamburg.

Your tasks will include:

  • Building up the network: following up and expanding collaborations initiated by BNITM principal investigators, identifying and approaching new African partner institutions, and helping to establish the network’s governance structures (e.g. Scientific Advisory Board, technical committee)
  • Setting up and coordinating network activities and communication with African hub institutions, partner organisations and network members, including the network website
  • Setting up and implementing the postdoctoral fellowship programme: developing standard operating procedures for calls, selection process, visa and hosting paperwork, and ongoing fellow support
  • Planning and organisation of network meetings, workshops, and the annual African summer school
  • Preparation and management of hosting agreements and MOUs with hub institutions, in close collaboration with BNITM Science Administration
  • Setting up budget monitoring, financial reporting, and liaison with third-party funders
  • General administrative support to the research group

Your profile:

  • University degree or equivalent qualification with relevant professional experience
  • Experience working in an international context, ideally with African partner institutions
  • Excellent written and spoken English; knowledge of French is an asset
  • Experience in project management and administration of third-party funded projects
  • Experience in building partnerships, networks or new programmes is an advantage
  • Highly organised, self-motivated, and able to work independently
  • Strong communication skills and confidence in written correspondence
  • Comfortable with standard office software; familiarity with databases or project management tools is a plus

The position has funding for two years, starting at the earliest possible date. Remuneration is in accordance with the German salary scheme for the public service (TV-AVH).
